I know we’re usually supposed to post our reading goals at the beginning of the month but, you know…reading/blogging slump and what not…but here they are now! I’ve thought long and hard about the reading goals I want to set for myself this year and here we go, these are my reading goals for 2019!:
No requesting ARCs allowed. If they get sent or given to me unsolicited, that’s one thing. But I am not going to go out of my way to request anything this year. One, I have no space. Two, they’d be far more appreciated in the hands of those who really want them. I’m getting older, I don’t really fall into the teen market anymore and while I still love reading books in this category, I think actual teens would benefit from reading these books. If I really want to read something, I have no problem waiting until the release date.
It’s time for you to Marie Kondo your life. See above. I have no space anymore. I’m also planning on moving out this year in what will most likely be a small apartment/house therefore it is really time for me to not only Marie Kondo my shelves, but also my whole life. I have too much stuff and it’s time to say goodbye. I’ll obvisouly be keeping the books that mean a lot to me or ones that I know I really want to read, but other than that I’m hoping to get rid of at least half of my books before I move out.
Don’t force yourself. This kind of goes hand in hand with the not requesting ARCs and the reading what I want point below. I’m not here to force myself to read anything this year. I know it’s been a point of mine for the past few years to DNF things I’m not enjoying, but I think I failed in that category. This year, I’m taking myself seriously. This is the year of easy-going reading and I’m here for it.
The year of reading what I want. Honestly, I think part of what may have put me into my reading slump at the beginning of this year was the fact that I was dreading having to read ARCs on time. My life has gotten busier, I’m getting older and it’s time for me to do things that don’t feel like a burden. This year is going to be the year of me reading what I want. No ARCs, no blog tours just me and the books that I have neglected for way too long.
There you have it! A short, but pretty intense set of goals. I just need to do something to shake up my reading habits and get me out of this slump! What are your reading goals for 2019?!
Thank you for reading!
These are all great goals! I’ve also slacked on putting my post together so I feel ya. I have to agree with all of these, I feel like I’m just not enjoying YA as much but I still requested a few. But only those that I really felt passionate about. I also went through my shelves and was surprised to see how many I let go of when I realized I didn’t “feel anything” for those books. I wish you the best on these goals!

I love our goals! I am making an effort to limit my requests this year as well. There are so many books that I own and want to devote time too. I wish you luck with your reading goals this year. 🙂
