Mini Reviews: We Are Okay by Nina LaCour, Your Name Vol.1 by Makoto Shinkai & Archie Vol.4 by Mark Waid

minireviews

I’ve been on a reading kick lately and as some of you may know, I’m trying to read as many backlist titles that are on my shelf this year! Here are a few of those backlist titles for you! Stay tuned, because more will be coming your way soon!

We Are Okay by Nina LaCour

I won’t lie. The cover is what sold me. The first time I saw it, I honestly thought that it was a new graphic novel, then I took a closer look and read the synopsis and realized that it wasn’t. I still picked it up though as the synopsis sounded fantastic and I had heard a lot about Nina LaCour, but I hadn’t read any of her work. Fast forward quite a while later, and I finally picked this one up.

It was a beautiful, yet heartbreaking story about a young girl moving away to college after a tragedy occurs within her family. It’s a very short book, but it manages to pack quite the punch. I really enjoyed this one and I can’t wait to read more by Nina LaCour in the future!

yourname

Your Name Vol.1 by Makoto Shinkai

About a year ago, during my flight to Tokyo, Japan, basically everyone on the flight was watching Your Name at one point or another. I didn’t think anything of it and to be honest, I had no idea what it was so I decided to skip out on it. Fast forward many months later and I really wish I had watched it! I had heard nothing but amazing reviews and I really felt as though I had missed something special. Fast forward a few more months and I still haven’t watched it, but I did find the manga version online and decided to pick it up!

This first volume sets up the storyline pretty well and it is definitely very intriguing! One of my favourite mangas of all time is Orange and while I was reading Your Name, it really did remind me of Orange just a little bit. I’m super intrigued by this story and I really want to continue reading and hopefully watch the film in the near future!

archie4

Archie Vol.4 by Mark Waid

Well, I certainly was not expecting this series to take such a dark turn…

This volume was definitely ten times better than volume three and the whole petty bickering between Veronica and Cheryl scenario. This felt like it went back to the classic Archie storylines. However, it definitely became quite sad towards the end. I’m actually still quite shocked that it did that…

There you have it! A few mini reviews for you! What have you read recently?

Thank you for reading!
