It’s time for a new set of mini reviews! I recently read a few backlist titles that have been on my TBR for a while now! Let’s take a look at what I thought about each of these novels/comics!
You Know Me Well by David Levithan & Nina LaCour
I’ve had this book sitting on my shelf waiting to be read for a while now and I finally found the time to pick it up! It was a very quick paced read and I managed to speed right through it! It was a wonderful LGBTQIA+ coming of age story and I’m really glad I was finally able to read it! My only reasoning for taking off half a star was the insta-love moments. I’m really not a fan of insta-love. While I understand that this was a short novel, I still can’t jump on board with it. That was just a minor detail though. I did love everything else about this novel!
All In Pieces by Suzanne Young
I’ve had this book sitting on my shelf for quite a while now. The last book I read by Suzanne Young was The Program and while I did like it, I wasn’t completely blown away by it. Fast forward many years later and I finally decided to give her writing another go! Once again, I wasn’t completely blown away, but I didn’t hate it either. In fact, I think I liked All In Pieces more than I liked The Program! All In Pieces dealt with some pretty tough topics such as sexual assault, developmental disorders, physical abuse & drug addiction. It definitely deals with some heavy subject matter which is the kind of contemporary young adult novels that I like to read. While it had it’s good moments, it also had it’s not-so-great moments. I think the problem here for me was mostly in the writing. It just wasn’t my favourite writing style that I’ve ever read. Overall, I think All In Pieces is definitely worth picking up for its subject matter.
Archie Volume 3 by Mark Waid
I put off reading this for some reason and then I realized that volume 4 is already out and I should probably catch up! While I enjoyed this volume…it wasn’t my favourite? I just couldn’t get into the whole Veronica/Cheryl rivalry and I also wasn’t that into the Archie feeling sorry for himself storyline. This volume was a little weak for me unfortunately. This does not mean I won’t be continuing with the series though. Archie has been a part of my life since I was a kid and I won’t be giving up on him just yet! I hope to pick up the fourth volume very soon!
There you have it! Three recent back titles that I thought I could give you some little mini-reviews for! Have you read any of these novels? What did you think?
Thank you for reading!
