Weekly Catch-Up: Issue #19 – Books, Music, Television & Life Update!

Did you think I was going to rest after my crazy week last week? Haha, I wish.

LIFE

Monday was a very exciting day for us here in the YA community in Toronto! Why you ask? Because Becky Albertalli, Angie Thomas and Julie Murphy were all here to promote their newest novels! This was such a great event and I had the greatest time! I also had the opportunity to meet each author and get all of my books signed! It was honestly such a great time!

Tuesday was really my only real day of rest…if you can even call it that. I mean, I got home after a full day of work and this was basically the only day I could do some laundry and maybe clean my room a little. How is it that bedrooms can get so messy when you literally haven’t been at home other than to sleep for a few hours at night?

After work on Wednesday, I wen to the Toronto Blue Jays game with a few other fellow book bloggers! It was a great night out…even if we didn’t win. I still had a blast and I can’t wait to go again!

Thursday brought on an unexpected development in life that was kind of spur of the moment. It all started with an email I got about deals on flights to Japan! My friends and I really wanted to go back for a longer period of time than when we went earlier this year and we also wanted to explore other cities besides Tokyo. However, this flight deal included a stop in Seoul, South Korea and you all know about my recent obsession with KPOP by now. We were sold and therefore we spent all evening Thursday trying to plan and book this trip! We think we’re almost there! Only thing left to do is book the flights & accommodations!

Friday brought on my third volunteer shift at the Toronto International Film Festival! I was once again stationed within the Elgin theatre which is just such a beautiful location! The film that was screening this evening was The Shape Of Water by director Guillermo Del Toro which I was really hoping to see but it was a completely sold out show, a.k.a. no more room for volunteers to sit and watch. However, I think it’ll be coming to theatres soon and I look forward to seeing it then!

I then went back to the Elgin for my final volunteer shift on Saturday! This time, I was able to see the film that was screening which was Kodachrome starring Jason Sudeikis, Elizabeth Olsen & Ed Harris. I really enjoyed this one and you can look forward to a full review coming soon!

Ah, Sunday. I wish I could say I was sleeping in and resting…but no. For a very good reason though! I’m visiting my grandmother who I haven’t seen in a while because my life has recently become so hectic.

Someone please pray to the sleep gods for me as I’m really lacking in the resting department.

BOOKS

Recently Finished: Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds, Fresh Romance Vol.1 by Kate Leth, They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera

I read two really great books as well as one really great graphic novel this week! Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds was absolutely amazing! It was just one of those books that will stay with you forever once you’ve finished reading it. Stay tuned for a full review closer to the release date! I also read Fresh Romance Volume 1 by Kate Leth. This was a quirky little story that featured high school students with a little dash of magic. I didn’t know anything about this one before going into it and I ended up really enjoying it! I can’t wait to pick up volume 2! I also listened to They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera and once again, his novels are just absolutely amazing. Unbearably heartbreaking, but amazing at the same time. Stay tuned for a full review coming soon!

Currently Reading: Feral Youth by Shaun David Hutchinson + more & A Short History Of The Girl Next Door by Jason Reck

Finally! I’ve been waiting for Feral Youth for a while now and I finally have it in my hands! I’m only about 100 pages into it, but I’m really enjoying it so far! I also recently picked up A Short History Of The Girl Next Door by Jared Reck but decided to DNF it. That is until I saw the many reviews that were praising it, so I’ve decided to give it a second chance. I’m about halfway through it now and honestly…it still really isn’t doing anything for me.

Next Up: Nowhere Girls by Amy Reed & Waking Gods by Sylvain Nuevel

Next up for me would have to be The Nowhere Girls by Amy Reed as well as Waking Gods by Sylvain Nuevel! The Nowhere Girls seems like it will be a really hard hitting contemporary which is just the kind of contemporary that I love. I also read Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel a little while ago and really enjoyed it so I’m really eager to read the sequel, Waking Gods, very soon!

FILM

Kodachrome_01

Recently Watched: Kodachrome (TIFF 2017)

I had the wonderful opportunity to watch Kodachrome at TIFF on Saturday afternoon and it was quite a wonderful story. I really enjoyed the performances by Jason Sudeikis, Elizabeth Olsen and Ed Harris! I heard it has been sold to Netflix, so keep an eye out for this one coming soon!

TELEVISION

Currently watching: N/A

Clearly, I have had no time to watch anything, BUT I should be able to catch up on the first few new episodes of American Horror Story soon!

MUSIC

Currently Listening To: DNA – BTS (literally a 1 minute teaser of nothing that I have on repeat)

There you have it! A little wrap up of another crazy week! Hopefully the upcoming weeks will be a little more tame!

Thank you for reading!

  1. “How is it that bedrooms can get so messy when you literally haven’t been at home other than to sleep for a few hours at night?” I DON’T KNOW!! I always struggle with this myself. Had a crazy work week last week and spent the entire morning cleaning during my day off, such a waste but apparently the less time you spend at home, the messier it gets. 😀

    1. LOL right?! I really don’t get how it makes any sense! I also just did a mass-clean-up of my room this weekend and it felt so good haha! 😛
