Weekly Catch-Up: Issue #12

weeklycatchup

It’s time for another weekly update! Keep reading to find out the books I read this past week as well as what I plan on reading next! I also mention both films and television series that I have been watching. But first, let’s start with a quick life update!

Life

Hello hello! Another week has gone by and it’s already time for another weekly catch-up! This week was another eventful one! As mentioned recently, life is about to get way more hectic…so you know, wish me luck!

Where do I start with this week?! On Tuesday I volunteered at a golf tournament that was hosted by my work. It was an event that was meant to raise money for local children’s charities which is always a great cause! I basically sat with another volunteer at a golf hole all day giving out snacks and beverages to the golfers! We also got to eat them ourselves as well, so we never went hungry! It was a long day, but it flew by!

I also went out to see Atomic Blonde this week which I really had no intention of seeing at first. My co-worker and work bestie really wanted to see it though and I had enough scene points for a free movie so I figured, what the heck?! Turns out it was pretty good! I really enjoyed the whole aesthetic of it and the music was amazing! Stay tuned for a possible review…not sure if I’ll write one, but it’s a possibility!

I also attended two parties on Saturday, one for an old family friend and the other for a neighbour! It was a little hectic and a tad tiring, but a lot of fun! Once again, it was really nice to see people that I haven’t seen in quite a while! I had a great time!

Sunday was another hectic day…but a FANTASTIC one! First, I headed out to Read Harder, a monthly meeting where all of us Toronto bloggers meet up to discuss what we’ve recently read and other bookish stuff! As always, I love meeting up with everyone! It’s always fun to discuss books! After the Read Harder meeting, Jesse (Books At Dawn) & I went to see G-Dragon at the Air Canada Centre! Oh my gosh guys, I had a blast! This was my first ever live K-POP experience and I have been absolutely so stoked for this concert! Oh my gosh, I can’t stop thinking about it!

Books

Recently Finished: Girl In Snow by Danya Kukafka, Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff & Death Note: Black Edition Vol.1 by Tsugumi Ohba

I recently finished reading Girl In Snow by Danya Kukafka which was super interesting and really dark…which is my favourite! It was told using multiple POVs which really worked with the “whodunnit” aspect of the novel! My review will be out soon so stay tuned! I then listened to Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff as an audiobook which was quite the experience! It used a full cast of voice actors and was complete with sound effects and other cool things! My review will be out for this one soon as well! I then decided to finally pick up the first volume of Death Note in the Black Edition by Tsugumi Ohba and I’m so glad that I finally did! I haven’t watched the anime since I was in high school so it was really cool to be able to refresh my memory on all of the smaller details that I had forgotten about.

Currently Reading: Project Pandora by Aden Polydoros & The Gentleman’s Guide To Vice & Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

I recently picked up Project Pandora by Aden Ploydoros as I received the ARC not too long ago! I can’t say too much about it yet as I’m only one chapter in, but it seems like a really intriguing and unique story! I also recently started listening to The Gentleman’s Guide To Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee and oh my gosh I am loving it so far! I only have about 4 hours left and I never want it to end!

Next Up: Are You Sleeping by Kathleen Barber & A Map For Wrecked Girls by Jessica Taylor

Next up for me will be a whole bunch of ARCs! I’m taking part in Arc August this year which basically a challenge in which we devote the whole month to reading the ARCs we’ve been neglecting! I’ll have a post up all about that tomorrow! For now, the first two up on my list are Are You Sleeping by Katheleen Barber and A Map For Wrecked Girls by Jessica Taylor! I can’t wait too start reading both of these!

Film

Recently Watched: Atomic Blonde

I recently saw Atomic Blonde and I really ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would! I’m thinking about writing a full review for this one, but just know that it’s full of 80s music and it has a very neon aesthetic which I absolutely LOVED! It was a tad hard to follow, but I think it’s one of those movies you have to watch a second time after knowing what you now know in order to pick up on all of the things you missed the first time around!

Television

game-of-thrones-night-king-featured

Currently watching/binging: Shadowhunters + Sailor Moon + Game Of Thrones

I am still currently binge watching and trying to keep up with the same shows as the past week, although I haven’t watched last night’s Game Of Thrones episode yet! I’m trying to avoid spoilers as much as possible here!

Music

Currently listening to: G-Dragon

As mentioned, I’m totally still on a high from this concert!

There you have it! My weekly update for the past week!

Thank you for reading!

  1. Sounds like it’s been a great week!! Ah I need to finally read Gemina! I’ve had the book for a while but have been putting it off! Also I can’t wait to hear what you think of Gentlemans Guide when you finish it! I want to read that so badly! And A Map for Wrecked Girls! Waiting patiently until that is out so I can grab a copy!

    1. It definitely worth it, I promise!!! I’m kind of mad at myself for waiting this long to read it, but I’m also glad because now the wait doesn’t feel as long for Obsidio haha! 😛

Oh my gosh, I’m loving Gentleman’s Guide so far! I should be finishing it soon so stay tuned for a review!

I’m actually super excited for a Map For Wrecked Girls! I won it in a GR giveaway and I can’t wait to pick it up! 😀

  2. I just won Girl in Snow from a GR giveaway! You’re one of the first people I’ve seen post about it so that was cool to see. Also currently reading Gentleman’s Guide! Can’t wait to see what you think!

  3. I’ve basically kept away from twitter to avoid GoT spoilers. I’m just praying that the rumours are not true and they don’t have a Jon / Dany romance. I didn’t sign up for that haha. It sounds like you had an amazing week. As tiring as those busy weeks are I always enjoy them. Gemina is on my tbr list for this month but I’ve heard amazing things about the audiobook so maybe I should give that a shot first.

    1. Man, I really don’t know how I feel about Dany/Jon…I really don’t ship many characters on that show at all haha! I highly recommend the audiobook! It was also super handy to have the hardcopy for all of the visuals though! 😀

    1. It was basically a last minute thing too! I got an email about the show and couldn’t decide if I should go or not. I only bought the tickets like 2 weeks ago and I’m so glad that I did! It was amazing!! I’ve also been listening to a lot more of Big Bang now too! I’m loving all of it! 😀
