Weekly Catch-Up: Issue #10

weeklycatchup

It’s time for another weekly update! Keep reading to find out the books I read this past week as well as what I plan on reading next! I also mention both films and television series that I have been watching. But first, let’s start with a quick life update!

Life

There were a lot of fun things that happened this past week! On Monday, I was lucky enough to see the Gorillaz live in Toronto! Even though we were way up in the nosebleeds, it was still a lot of fun and a really entertaining show! They played a lot of their new music which was expected due to the release of their new album, but I kind of wished that they would play more of their old stuff. I mean, they didn’t even play Feel Good Inc. for crying out loud. However, they did play Clint Eastwood which was nice!

On Wednesday night after work, I met up with fellow bloggers Jesse (Books At Dawn) & Joey (Thoughts And Afterthoughts) as well as Jenna (Reading With Jenna) who is currently in Toronto! We all decided to have a reunion at Snakes & Lattes as that was where we all went together the last time that Jenna was here! We had no intention of staying there for hours, but we totally lost track of time while playing all of the board games! Also, Jenna brought me Tim Tams from Australia and I was so excited ❤

I also got together with a couple of old high school friends on Saturday night for some backyard BBQ shenanigans which was a lot of fun! It was cool to see everyone all together again, especially those that I hadn’t seen in a while!

Books

Recently Finished: Orange: The Complete Collection, Book 2 by Ichigo Takano & Rebel Spring by Morgan Rhodes & Antisocial by Heidi Cullinan

So I finished Orange: The Complete Collection, Book 2 by Ichigo Takanoand oh my god…this series completely hit me in the feels. I’m so sad that I read it as quickly as I did. I really never wanted it to end. I also finally picked up the second book in the Falling Kingdoms series, Rebel Spring by Morgan Rhodes, after about a year since I read the first book. It was super easy to jump back into the world and I can’t wait to pick up book 3! Antisocial by Heidi Cullinan was a book that I picked up on a whim. I needed something quick and light to thrown in between my two current reads. It was the right choice as I managed to finish it in a little over a day!

Currently Reading: The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell & Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

I’m currently still reading The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell and I feel as though this title may appear in this section for the next couple of weeks. I’m always a slower reader when it comes to the fantasy genre. While it’s really well written, it’s just super descriptive which is taking me a while to get through. I also finally decided to pick up Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff as it has clearly been sitting on my shelf for a while now. I’m alternating back and forth between listening to the audiobook and reading the physical copy for the illustrations and other visuals. It’s actually been a really cool experience to listen to as it uses a full cast of narrators!

Next Up: Girl In Snow by Danya Kukafka & Project Pandora by Aden Polydoros

I have a few psychological thrillers coming up on my ARC tbr list, but I think I’m going to start with Girl In Snow by Danya Kukafka. It seems like something I will really enjoy and I’m super excited to pick this one up soon! I also can’t wait to read Project Pandora by Aden Plydoros. I need to stick other genres in between my psychological thrillers and I think this sci-fi story is the perfect choice!

Film

Recently Watched: Baby Driver

I recently watched Baby Driver and oh my gosh it was one hell of a movie. I absolutely loved it and I’m so glad that I chose to see it! It’s quirky and weird, just the way I like it! I wrote a full review and I haven’t written a film review in quite a while now!

Up Next: Spider-Man: Homecoming & Valerian

These two are still on my list of movies to watch ASAP and I’m hoping to watch both of them before this month is over! Wish me luck!

Television

Currently finished binging: Orange

Can you tell I became obsessed with this series?! I loved the manga so much I just had to jump on the anime. At only 13 episodes, it was super easy to binge watch it as fast as I read the manga.

Currently watching/binging: Shadowhunters + Sailor Moon

I’m still keeping up with Shadowhunters and while it still isn’t the greatest, the storyline continues to intrigue me. I never read any of the Mortal Instrument books so maybe that’s what’s keeping me from giving up on this series! I have no idea if what’s happening is accurate to the books or not. I’m also still slowly making my way through my re-watch of Sailor Moon!

Next Up: Kingdom

The third and final season of Kingdom started a while ago and I’m not sure why I neglected to start watching. At this point I may wait for the season to end so I can binge watch the whole thing at once!

Music

Currently listening to: BTS, Monsta X, Big Bang & G-Dragon!

So, I’m still on that KPOP binge and I’ve recently added some more to my list! Big Bang and G-Dragon! I’m always open to more recommendations, so please…help me discover more KPOP! 😀

There you have it! My weekly update for the past week!

Thank you for reading!

  1. Ooh, I need to pick up Falling Kingdoms, man, but I need to finish so many other series before I start a new series. Plus, I have to order it online and Boo Depository takes forever to send me stuff. But I’m glad you finally wrote a movie review, you’re good at it! 🙂

    1. Ugh that’s no fun! Book Depository usually takes a little while to get to me too! Thank you so much for the compliment! I feel like I’m finally back into a movie watching/reviewing groove!
