Weekly Catch-Up: Issue #9

weeklycatchup

It’s time for another weekly update! Keep reading to find out the books I read this past week as well as what I plan on reading next! I also mention both films and television series that I have been watching. But first, let’s start with a quick life update!

Life

So I definitely skipped posting one of these catch-up posts last week. It was just such a busy week for me, so I’ve decided to recap the past two weeks for you today!

There were two huge events last weekend, one being the 150th birthday of my home country Canada and the other being that two of my best friends got married on Canada Day! So last week contained a lot of prepping and gathering last minute things to get ready for the wedding! I was in the bridal party and this was the first time I have ever been in a bridal party before! I always wanted to be a flower girl when I was a kid, but sadly I never had the opportunity. Clearly I’m too old for that now, but I did get to be a bridesmaid (secretly and unofficial/undercover flower girl haha)! I feel like myself and a few other bridesmaids were feeling a little more anxious than the bride herself, but we all managed to take a deep breath and enjoy the big day!

The day after the wedding was basically a write off. We stayed up until about 5 AM before I crashed at my friends place that night. By the time I got back home to my own bed by 2 PM the next day, I crashed until about 10:30 PM. Basically my whole Sunday was gone which was why I decided to skip the catch-up post for last week. Thanks to Canada Day, I also had Monday off of work because the stat holiday fell on a weekend. It was a great day to catch up on some reading. I finished Want by Cindy Pon and I also started and finished Words In Deep Blue by Cath Crowley, but you’ll see more about that below!

Because of the shortened work week, not a lot happened, but I did have the opportunity to go and see Baby Driver with my sister on Friday night! You’ll also be able to read more about that below, but just know that it was pretty awesome! Other than that I was hoping to have a bit more of a chill and relaxing weekend, which I definitely think I needed!

Here’s a little bonus video my sister made of my best friend’s wedding ❤

Books

Recently Finished: Want by Cindy Pon & Words In Deep Blue by Cath Crowley & Orange by Ichigo Takano

I’ve been meaning to read Want by Cindy Pon for a while now, ever since it’s cover grabbed me when I first saw it a couple of months ago! It did not disappoint! I absolutely loved the story and the characters. it’s hard for me to find science fiction novels that I end up enjoying, so I’m glad I’m able to add another to my small list! I also found the perfect contemporary novel in Words In Deep Blue by Cath Crowley! I read this book in two evenings and I probably could have read it in a single day if I had the time! It was brilliant and I highly recommend it! I also started reading The Last Magician, which you’ll find out more about soon, but I decided to take a mini break to read Orange by Ichigo Takano and oh my god it is perfect. I literally just finished it before typing up this post and oh my god it hit me in all of the feels, I can’t wait to read book 2!

  1. I totally hate watch Shadowhunters, because I need to know what happens in order to complain accurately about it hahaha
The wedding looked like so much and all your dresses (bridesmaid and bride and just everyone) were so beautiful.

  2. I’m so glad that I gave the Shdaowhunters a pass. It sounds like one of those shows people love to hate and it gets them unintentionally hooked because of it haha.
