Weekly Catch Up: Issue #6

It’s time for another weekly update! Keep reading to find out the books I read this past week as well as what I plan on reading next! I also mention both films and television series that I have been watching. But first, let’s start with a quick life update!

This week felt like a bit of a blur to be honest. I had a pretty busy week at work as we were prepping for an event that we have been planning since January.

On Thursday I had the opportunity to attend an event through Simon & Schuster Canada where I had the opportunity to meet Lisa Jewell, author of I Found You a.k.a. the book that I was completely obsessed with recently. The event took place at this awesome location in Toronto called The Spoke Club which was pretty fancy. It even had this beautiful rooftop patio that I wish I had taken a photo of!

This weekend has been the hottest of the year so far! Summer is officially here…and like the true Canadian that I am, I hate the heat. I’m much more of a Fall/Winter person and a lot of people think I’m a weirdo because of it! I just personally love the cooler weather okay?! So this weekend I tried to stay indoors as much as possible, but I did manage to go out and visit some friends in the city on Saturday and we made our own homemade tacos which were absolutely delicious. Other than that, this week pretty much came and went!

Recently Finished: The Party by Robyn Harding & Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

I recently finished reading The Party by Robyn Harding and I was lucky enough to participate in the blog tour! You can check that out for more in depth thoughts, but overall it was a pretty decent thriller! I enjoyed reading it! I also finished listening to Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson through Audible! I wasn’t really sure what I was getting myself into before picking this one up as I went into it completely blind. I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait to start reading the second book in the series!

Currently reading: Saints & Misfits by S.K. Ali & Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

I recently started reading Saints and Misfits by S.K. Ali and so far it’s pretty great! It has been compared to Degrassi and My So Called Life so I was instantly interested in reading it based on that comment alone. It also features a Muslim main character and it’s an own voices novel written by a Torontonian author. So in other words, I needed to read this one and I’m so glad I have finally been able to pick it up! I’ve heard so much about Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi, especially from WhittyNovels on YouTube, but I just never had the chance to pick it up. Well, I’ve finally started listening to the Audible version and I’m really enjoying it so far! Can’t wait to finish this one to let you all know what I think!

Upcoming reads: Maybe In Paris by Rebecca Christiansen & The Last Magician by

I keep mentioning Maybe In Paris by Rebecca Christiansen in these Weekly Catch Ups as a book that I want to read soon and I just haven’t had the time yet! Hopefully soon! The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell seems like an epic story that I just can’t afford to miss! I can’t wait to finally be able to pick this one up soon!

Recently watched: Snowpiercer (Kind Of…)

While I was at my friend’s place over the weekend, we decided to try watching Snowpiercer…which leads me to the reason behind how I “Kind Of” watched it. I won’t lie to you, I was a little lost from the beginning and it just wasn’t grabbing me. I ended up falling asleep. I’m really sorry if you absolutely loved this move! It just wasn’t for me apparently. Or maybe I was just too tired.

Upcoming: Wonder Woman

I won’t lie. Wonder Woman wasn’t initially something that I planned on seeing. I’m not a fan of the DC Cinematic Universe and I really had no intention of watching Wonder Woman. But now that I’ve heard so many great things about it…I think I may just have to check it out!

Currently finished binging: N/A

I haven’t currently finished binging or watching anything since last week!

Currently watching/binging: Orange Is The New Black & Shadowhunters

I’ve recently started binging the new season of Orange Is The New Black. The first couple of episodes have been a little overwhelming and chaotic, but I don’t hate it! Shadowhunters is also back. I’m not sure why I continue to watch it as it’s really not the greatest for a few reasons, but it’s a bit of a guilty pleasure now. I also have a really fun time recognizing Toronto as they try to disguise it as New York haha!

Currently listening to: BTS

Yupp. Still listening to BTS on repeat. I’m obsessed and I can’t stop.

There you have it! My weekly update for this past week!

Thank you for reading!

  1. Sounds like you had good weekend, we’ve been enjoying some nice warm weather here in UK atm, nice change for us. I went to see Wonder Woman for the 2nd time this weekend, great film, highly recommend it, one of the best DC comics films they’ve done in ages. Your not wrong about Snowpiercer either, lot of my friend liked it, but I found it tediously dull.

    1. I’m glad you’ve been able to enjoy some warm weather! I hope to see Wonder Woman this Friday! Haha! It looks like people either LOVE or HATE Snowpiercer! I may just have to try one more time to see if my opinion changes haha! 😛

  2. Also a Fall/Winter person.. and I don’t know, maybe it’s because I’m born in February, so it’s what I gravitate towards naturally? 😀

Oh man, Snowpiercer was amazing! Can’t believe you fell asleep, hah. But you know, it does demand your full attention, it’s a very symbolic movie and such a great one if you finish it and start thinking about it. I should rewatch it when I’m not not rewatching movies anymore.

Ohoh, Wonder Woman was great, not a DCU fan either but that movie.. Pine was so good!!!!

    1. Haha! I was born in December so maybe that makes sense!! 😛

I think I may just have to give Snowpiercer another chance haha! I think there’s a graphic novel as well if I’m not mistaken! I may try picking that up instead and see if I like it any better!

I’m hopefully going to see Wonder Woman this Friday! I can’t wait! 😀
