This week we got to choose our own spin on the topic of Fandoms! Now, I don’t know about you but fandoms are my specialty. I belong to so many and I literally cannot to discuss them all with you! Marvel Cinematic Universe

If you asked me 10 years ago if I would ever be a big fan of anything to do with comics, specifically super hero comics, I would have laughed. Honestly, I was never into superheroes or reading comics (hilarious if you know me now).  It all started in university. I was introduced to the films and I met people who were heavy into the comics. I really didn’t think I would like any of it and now you could say I’m pretty obsessed. The only two movies I haven’t seen so far are Ant Man and Doctor Strange (I’m working on that, I promise!).

The Walking Dead

I know a lot of people lately have grown out of the The Walking Dead fandom. People have claimed it’s gotten boring and repetitive. While I don’t fully disagree, I had the same feelings during season two. I thought, “damn, this is getting really boring.” and then BAM it got intense! So I haven’t given up on this fandom just yet, and with new characters continuously being introduced, there’s always room for new & fresh story ideas!

Riverdale

Ah yes, I have jumped on this bandwagon and I have jumped on it hard. Although, is it really jumping on the bandwagon when you’ve been reading the Archie comics since you were a child? If you would be so kind as to allow me to be a complete hipster for a second, Jughead has been my favourite for as long as I can remember. Waaaaay before the Cole Sprouse edition, although he’s not so bad either. I just hope the writers realize the majority of us prefer original Jughead…*cough* he’s supposed to love food, not Betty Cooper *cough*.

Yuri!!! On Ice

Yupp, I jumped on this one too. It takes a lot for me to stick with an anime. I’ve only watched a select few, but those select few have become some of my favourites of all time. I was a little hesitant to start Yuri!!! On Ice at first only because it was super over-hyped. I love figure skating though and I thought it was a pretty cool idea to throw that into an anime story. Turns out Yuri!!! On Ice would become a fast favourite of mine.

Sailor Moon

As mentioned above, the few anime that I have watched, I am absolutely in love with. I think the first anime that I ever watched was Sailor Moon way back when I was in kindergarten. I was obsessed and I couldn’t eve pronounce it properly (my mom never fails to remind me that I called it “Say-lah Moo”. Fast forward to 2017 and I’m 25 years old and I still adore this entire franchise so much. Sailor Moon will always have a special place in my heart!

Shameless US

Oh Shameless…I miss when you were good. Yeah, I said it, Shameless just isn’t as good as it used to be. Back in the early years though, mainly seasons 1-5, I could not get enough of this show. I would count down the days until it was Sunday again so I could watch the next episode. Now it just feels like the same old same old and the writing has gone severely downhill, but Shameless will always be one of those shows that makes it on to my top 10 lists.

John Hughes

I don’t think this really needs any explanation! John Hughes movies are some of the best movies ever. It’s amazing how they’re still relevant and compelling all these years later. My mom introduced me to Pretty In Pink, The Breakfast Club & Ferris Bueller’s Day Off a long while ago and they still remain to be some of my favourite movies of all time.

Stranger Things

Who isn’t a part of the Stranger Things fandom? I think this show snuck up on so many of us and quickly became an instant cult classic hit. Like the John Hughes movies above, I think that Stranger Things will be a favourite for MANY years down the road.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Yup. I grew up in Toronto and the surrounding areas, so of course I was naturally raised as a Leafs fan. It been one of the hardest fandoms for people of many generations to be a part of (I’m sure you ALL know they haven’t won a Stanley Cup since 1967), but yet here we all are still bleeding blue. I have literally been a fan since I left the womb thanks to my parents and I will always be loyal until the day I die…a.k.a. probably the year they finally win the damn cup again.

Twenty One Pilots

Oh Twenty One Pilots, how I love thee. I know they have become a fan favourite for many teens nowadays and that’s perfectly fine. I prefer it that way. Their lyrics are inspiring and relatable and so so so smart. I have loved them for quite a while now and although they have become a lot bigger and more popular lately, they will always have a special place in my heart.
