It’s time for another Top 10 Tuesday!!! For those of you who don’t know, Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the folks over at The Broke and the Bookish! This week we were asked to feature 10 books that we wish had more or less of blank. I decided to feature 5 books that I wish had MORE hype and 5 books that I wish had LESS hype.
Enjoy!
5 Books I Wish Had More Hype
A List of Cages by Robin Roe
I recently read this book and it has become the new book that I recommend to literally everyone. No actually, now that I think about it, I don’t recommend it…I force it upon you. Everyone needs to read this, it needs to be hyped up, because I promise you this book is worth it.
Deadly Class by Rick Remender
Ahh, yes. My all-time favourite comic series as I’m sure many of you already know. I don’t come across many people who have read this series, so I push every comic reader I know to pick this one up. I even got one of my best friends to read it and she absolutely LOVES it. Honestly, read this series.
The Summer That Melted Everything by Tiffany McDaniel
I was contacted by Tiffany McDaniel to read this novel a little while ago and oh my god did it ever shock me in ways that I was not expecting! This book is dark and dreary and unlike anything I have read before. I was completely blown away by this novel and I need everyone to please read it!
Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits by David Wong
This book wasn’t even on my radar at all. One of my best friends lent it to me as it is by one of her favourite authors. I can honestly tell you that this was one of the most ridiculous and hilarious book I have ever read. It’s fun and fast-paced and one hell of an entertaining read.
We Are The Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson
Would this even be a list without me featuring We Are The Ants? While I’ve seen a few more people talk about it recently, it still isn’t enough. EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW please and thank you! 🙂
5 Books I Wish Had Less Hype
The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson
Unfortunately, this book just didn’t do it for me. I absolutely hate love triangles (unless they are done right) and yes, this book was way over-hyped for me. I also read it after I’ll Give You The Sun and I’m still not sure if anything else by Jandy Nelson could top that book.
Vicious by V.E. Schwab
What’s frustrating about this one is that the storyline is amazing. It has such a cool concept, yet the hype surrounding it was too strong. This book just ended up falling a little flat for me even though I wanted so badly to love it.
Red Rising by Pierce Brown
Yeah. I really didn’t like Red Rising…or even Golden Son for that matter. I’m shocked I even pushed myself to continue with Morning Star, although I’m glad I did cause that one was amazing. There was just something about Red Rising that couldn’t pull me in. It was long and slow and I couldn’t wait for it to be over.
Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon
I felt completely jipped by the ending of this book. Everyone talked about how amazing it was, but honestly the whole thing just made me angry. I won’t spoil it, but I really did feel cheated by the end of the story.
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
This is another one that I can’t delve to far into the details with due to spoilers, but again I felt cheated. Everyone felt so shocked by the ending, yet I though it felt very predictable. The writing was bland and there was no differentiation between the multiple characters. Definitely not a fan of this novel.
Thank you for reading!
Completely agree with Everything Everything. I liked The Sun Is Also A Star MUCH more. Everything Everything just kind of felt too predictable, down to the descriptions of kissing and traveling and whatnot. I liked the writing of Sun more too.

We were liars was a total dissapointment for me too. I guessed the twist at about page 30 and felt very underwhelmed when I actually got there. But oh well. I’m excited to get my hands on A List of Cages! 😁

I’m so sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy Red Rising, as that’s one of my all time favorite series. But I have had my eye on We Are The Ants for a long time, but now you’ve really convinced me! 🙂
