I was tagged by Jesse from Books At Dawn to do the Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag!
I feel like I haven’t participated in a tag in quite a while and this one was great to kind of look back at what I’ve read so far this year, as well as look forward into what I hope to read before 2016 comes to an end!
Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2016
We Are The Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson
I actually finished reading We Are The Ants 0n December 25th of 2015, but it was released in January 2016 so I’m counting it towards a 2016 read. I absolutely loved this novel and I have yet to read anything that has topped how I felt about this book. It’s just so well written and such a beautiful novel. I highly recommend it to everyone.
Best Sequel You Have Read So Far In 2016
Morning Star (Red Rising #3)
After having mixed feelings about the first two novels, Morning Star completely blew me away. I wasn’t expecting to love it so much as I had a love/hate relationship with the first two novels, but I’m so glad I managed to push through and read through the third and final installment.
New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But You Want To
A Court of Mist & Fury (A Court of Thorns & Roses #2)
I’ve been so eager to read this one and I just haven’t had the time! I do plan on reading it next month though! Stay tuned! 😉
Most Anticipated Release For The Second Half of The Year
Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Illuminae was one of the most unique novels that I have ever read. The story is told in such a creative way and I can’t wait to read more from both Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff!
Biggest Disappointment
Half Lost (Half Bad #3) by Sally Green
Ugh. I don’t even really want to talk about it. I absolutely loved this series up until this third and final installment. I’m raging inside just thinking about it.
Biggest Surprise
Bruiser
I had never read a novel by Neal Shusterman before. I didn’t research what Bruiser was about before I started reading it and I think that was the best decision I could have made. It took a turn that I wasn’t expecting, but ended up loving.
Favourite New Author (Debut or New To You)
Shaun David Hutchinson
As soon as I finished reading We Are The Ants, I purchased The Five Stages of Andrew Brawley and Violent Ends. I’m also eagerly anticipating At The Edge of The Universe which will be released early next year!
Newest Fictional Crush
Marko (Saga)
I’m not one to have a lot of fictional crushes to be honest, but damn Marko.
My Reviews: Saga Vol.1 | Saga Vol. 2,3,4 | Saga Vol.5 | Saga Vol.6
Newest Favourite Character
Cassidy (Preacher)
There’s just something about Cassidy that I love. He’s a pretty awesome depiction of a vampire and he’s ridiculously hilarious. I love his character in both the comics and the televison show…so far at least…I haven’t finished reading/watching either of them!
My Review: Preacher Book 1
Book That Made You Cry
Lily & The Octopus by Steven Rowley
I don’t cry while reading books often and I haven’t cried yet this year, but Lily & The Octopus was a close contender.
Book That Made You Happy
George by Alex Gino
I absolutely loved this amazing story. It made me really happy because of how important it is, especially for children in the age group that it’s marketed to. I’m so happy that George exists.
Favourite Book To Film Adaptation
I mean, does Deadpool count? Loved it. But in terms of a book to film adaptation that I’m eagerly anticipating, I would have to say Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children. Tim Burton. Need I say more?
Favourite Post You Have Done This Year
On Canada Day, I featured a few lovely Canadian authors!
Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year
Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone (Illustrated)
I mean, this was probably the most beautiful book that everyone bought this year.
What Book Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year?
A Court of Mist & Fury, Highly Illogical Behaviour, A Little Life, If I Was Your Girl, Jerkbait
I just can’t pick one!
And there you have it! Another tag completed!
Don’t worry Maria, you’re not the only one with a crush on Marko! 😛
I can’t wait for Hutchinson’s new book too! I’m hoping I can get the ARC for it the fall!!
